Open Studios takes place Thursday & Friday 12-6 and Saturday & Sunday from 10-4. Participants may arrive and leave at any point during the Open Studio; the price is the same regardless of how much time is spent working.
UPON ARRIVAL: Participants must check in with the studio monitor. If you are attending open studio for the first time and are not enrolled in a class, you must read the student handbook and become familiar with studio clean up and safety procedures.
COST: Price for each Open Studio is $30 (Students currently enrolled in a class at Black Hound enjoy a rate of $15 per Open Studio).
Participants must be comfortable working independently and without instruction to attend Open Studio. The Weekend Open Studio Manager will be present to answer questions but cannot provide instruction.
SUPPLIES: Clay is not included in the cost of open studio, it is available for purchase during Open Studio via The Black Hound Clay Studio online store. Basic tools are available for use during open studio.
GLAZES: All glazes, underglazes, brushes and wax resist are included in the cost of open studio.
FIRING: Firing fees are additional. Please see the Kiln Rental page for open studio rates. All pieces made during Open Studio must be labeled with a firing slip before being put on the shelf.
STORAGE: Shelf space is available to Open Studio students attending more than one day of Open Studio. All shelves and work MUST be clearly labeled with your full name. Work, tools and clay that are not claimed after three months will be thrown away.
In the case of staff illness or emergency, Open Studios may be cancelled. Cancellations will be listed on this website, our Instagram and on our Facebook page. In the case of cancellation, participants may use their Open Studio on another day.
