Thursday Intermediate Wheelthrowing: Fall 2019

Instructor: Lisa Belsky

Thursday Evenings, September 26 - November 14, 2019, 8 weeks, 6 - 9 pm.

This course is designed for students with previous wheel throwing experience. The goal is to build on each student’s existing set of skills while introducing new techniques that will enhance personal studio practices.

Students will strengthen their throwing skills by learning how to effectively troubleshoot common throwing problems like uneven wall thicknesses, uneven top edges, preventing s-cracks and more.

We will explore more complex forms like pitchers, jars and teapots and also discuss basic altering techniques.

A variety of surface design techniques will be demonstrated and will include carving, slip-trailing, sgraffito and mishima.

All instruction, glazes and firing are included in the price of the class. Clay can be purchased separately at the studio ($25 for 25 pounds) as well as a beginner tool kit ($10) and paid for online at our supply store. Students are also required to bring an old towel for clean up. A more detailed orientation email listing materials to bring will be sent prior to the start of class.
