Thursday Intermediate Wheelthrowing: Spring 2018

Thursday Evenings, April 12 - June 14, 2018, 10 weeks, 6 - 9 pm. 

This class will be more geared toward intermediate students with throwing experience. Beginners should check out the Monday or Tuesday evening wheelthrowing classes.

In this fun, informal class, students will explore and expand their toolbox of techniques for creating beautiful ceramic pieces using the potter’s wheel. Form, function, and various surface treatments will be presented, as well as more advanced skills such as teapots, throwing identical sets and more sophisticated surface and glaze treatments. Classes are tailored to individual students' interests and abilities.

About Bethany: Bethany Rusen is the founder and owner of Black Hound Clay Studio. She has almost 20 years of teaching experience in clay, including community art centers, college level classes and specialized lectures and workshops. She earned her BFA in ceramics from Tyler School of Art and her MFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Class Policies and Information:

All glazes and firings are included in class tuition.

Clay ($25 for 25 pounds) and beginner tool kit ($10) are available for purchase at first class.

All classes take place at 711B South 50th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19143. Students will be contacted via email and phone by 2 pm of the class day if classes are cancelled due to weather or teacher illness. In the case of a cancelled class, a make up class will be tacked on to the end of the session.

Currently enrolled students can attend Weekend Open Studios at BHCS from 10 am to 4 pm each Saturday and/or Sunday. The first open studio is free and included in the cost of tuition, each additional open studio is available for a cost of $15 per day. 

Prorated tuition is not permitted in the case of missed classes. 

BHCS reserves the right to cancel class if there is insufficient enrollment. In the case of a cancelled class, a full refund will be issued.
